Interactive surfaces provide novel ways of interactions by closely replicating the familiar hands-on experience of everyday object manipulation. It is much more enjoyable and efficient than using a mouse and keyboard. However, most of the currently available interactive surfaces are based on infrared sensing and projection. Thus, those are very expensive and require a higher engineering knowledge to setup.
The purpose of this project is to avoid those expensive infrared sensing techniques and provide a computer-vision based solution to retrofit existing flat displays into interactive surfaces. Furthermore, the proposed solution is cost effective and requires minimum engineering knowledge to implement as it uses a small number of hardware devices.
Pinching gesture is used as the main interaction method and the system is capable of identifying circular tangible objects and their colours.
"GTS MT Table" is Sri Lanka's first multitouch table. It uses rear diffuse illumination technique to capture the touching points and comes with a 30 inch screen. This was my individual project at Gamos Technology Solutions (GTS). This table was demonstrated at an international exhibition held in Sri Lanka in September 2009 and was a great chance for more than 1000 people to have their first experience in surface computing.
"Colombo WTC Challenge" is the first wii-flash game that I developed at Gamos Technology Solutions. It is a PC Flash game controlled using a wiimote. In the game, there is a rope tied between two buildings. In order to win, player must be talented enough to cross the rope to the destinaiton using a balancing pole :-). The game was developed using WiiFlash API. Get ready! Some new wii-flash games are growing inside the incubator ;-).
"KBFX" is an alternative menu for the traditional hierarchical menu that comes with the K-Desktop Envirionment. I worked on keyboard navigation feature and a new task oriented menu (TOM) concept for "KBFX" as my Google Summer of Code project in 2007.
"Plexy" is a Desktop, and it's not a Desktop Environment like KDE or Gnome. PlexyDesk will render your workspace and help organize all your information with a touch. The Aim of PlexyDesk team is to create "A Desktop which is easy to communicate, Create and Simply cool!
I am a part of the PlexyDesk team.
